Amazing game, regardless of what you may think by looking at the theme
Quilting sounds like sooo much fun, huh? Well, this game actually is lots of fun! This 2-player game is challenging, but the rules are simple. It has a tetris-like feel to it and it plays quickly.

Great replayability
This is a great, quick puzzle/strategy game to play. The rules are extremely simple but leave plenty of room to try different tactics. The basic actions you can take are either a) move in front of the other players token and take a number of buttons (money) equal to the distance traveled or b) buy a piece to fit on your quilt board. The key aspects are that each piece has a button cost as well as a movement cost, so you are forced forward on the turn board when you buy a piece (meaning that the game is closer to being over). Also, some pieces have buttons on them that allow you to earn additional 'income', so you need to balance which kinds of pieces you buy and when.

I have played numerous back-to-back games and really enjoy the challenge of trying to fill up the entire quilt board and beat out my opponent. This game is definitely worth adding to your collection.

A must have two player game
My current gaming situation has me always searching for great games that my wife really enjoys, because she is the primary person I game with. What a wonderful surprise we found in Patchwork.

Patchwork is a two player game by Uwe Rosenberg (of Agricola fame, among others) with the premise of making a quilt out of various fabric scraps. Its easily apparent that this quilting theme was put in place to make sense of the mechanic of the game, which is a bit Tetris like. Essentially, you use your currency (buttons) to buy various pieces, while trying to build a bit of an engine so you earn more buttons when you pass certain spaces. Each piece will also move you forward a varying number of spaces on a track, and its your turn to buy a piece if you are behind your opponent. Its a great balance between choosing the best fitting pieces, ones that will give income, and pieces that move you forward.

For a game thats has a very tacked on theme, my wife loves it. And I do too actually. Its challenging for us both, and we can usually knock out a game in a bit over 30 minutes. We tend to be a bit AP prone, so sometimes our turns can take a bit, so you could potentially play this even quicker!

This game fits in a great spot of being fun for my wife and I both, as well as being quick. I never feel like Im settling for a light game, but always come out satisfied. And I make the best quilts you'll ever see.

Best 15 Minutes
This game is quickly becoming my favorite 2 player filler. Plays quick, easy to teach, but plenty of interesting strategic nuances to keep it fresh. This is a perfect game if you love Tetris or other spatial puzzle games. You don't need to like quilting to really enjoy this little gem.

Simple yet complexed 2-player
This is a great game that my partner and I play all the time. The components are spot on and the over all design is splendid. Uwe Rosenberg is of course a wonderful designer and I think this game, though simple, stands up to his other big titles. The replay value is well worth the cost of this game and I would suggest it to any couple. I'm usually the one wanting to play it more often than my girlfriend.

Best game for couples

I cannot say enough about this game. It is something special when rules to a game can be grasped in no time at all, but the depth of gameplay can be enjoyed game after game. This game is highly addictive and is adored by myself and my wife. Fantastic!

Fun Casual Game
Patchwork is a 2-player game in which each player is buying quilt patches from the middle of the table to complete their quilt. It is a fun, very casual game that only takes about 20-25 min to play.
As most Mayfair games, the game comes with many pieces, all in good quality. There are many quilt patch shapes, much like tetris, and the main scoring board even has two sides that can be played to make the game longer or shorter.
One thing I really like about the game is that when the game is being set up, the patches are laid out randomly which can give the game a very different outcome each time it is played. Couple this with the dual sided game board, and the replay-ability is very high. The game mechanics are very simple and easy to learn. There isn't a ton of player interaction, but the game doesn't create a hostile environment like some games can with two players.
This game would be perfect for non-gamers to play very casually. The issue is the relatively high price tag for a game that only plays two people. The price makes sense when you see all the pieces and boards you get which is a great value, but it is hard to justify the price on a game that is limited by the number of players.

Excellent game for one or two...
This is a very fun game with a lot of strategy. You have to plan you quilt pattern wisely, not painting yourself into a corner where you run out of room to place swatches too early. Since you can see what swatches are coming up you have to think through how to navigate them with the time you have to insure you get the piece you need. As the neutral marker keeps moving clockwise, if a swatch is skipped you have to wait until the marker comes around again. You also don't want to leave your opponent in a position to claim that piece they need. Lots of offensive and defensive choices here, but not enough for analysis paralysis to creep in. Then you want to manage the special patches because you will need to fill in a 1x1 spot or two to insure you get the 7x7 bonus.

It plays very fast and should appeal to gamers of all ages and skill levels. I don't think a hard core gamer would be averse to this for filler play.

Conclusion

Patchwork is another winner from Uwe Rosenberg and a departure from his familiar farming fare. It cements him as one of the great designers in this hobby of ours. If you can find a copy, pick it up... for either two player or as always better: solitaire.
