Achievement of design

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

In the words of Quintin Smith As my mother always said; it's not size of the box. It's the ludographic intent and whether the author manages to actualize this with an economy of rules that resonate with the theme. Flamme Rouge is such an achievement. Thematically evocative and comprehensible with a ruleset quickly grasped and executable. Artwork is excellent. No complaints.

Flamme Rouge - very thematic

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is an awesome game and very thematic of cycling. Only played solo with 3 bots so far (also used Peloton expansion) and loved it. Can’t wait to play multi player.

A Flamme-ing Good Time

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Wonderful racing game with a great level of strategy. Can be taught in a matter of minutes and a game can be finished in about 30 minutes.

Ok at 2, probably better with more

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Had the opportunity to play this with my wife the other night, and while the card play and tactics of racing were still engaging, it was not as compelling as I had hoped. In some ways, the tactics are severely reduced with fewer bikes on the field, as the odds of taking exhaustion is much higher and timing your move is less of a factor. We definitely still had fun, but I can see how much better this would be at three or four players. Technically you can play it with two, but I wouldn't suggest it. Looking forward to getting back on the track with a full table.

Roulez!

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Flamme Rouge is a great little game for 2-4 players. It's unpredictable, tense, and strategic, and working with your opponents and predicting what their cyclists will do results in an exciting race. The only negatives are the lengthy setup process and the tedious amount of shuffling required throughout the game.

King of the hills! (And slopes)

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

A very satisfying racing game with easy to understand mechanics! Also recommend both expansion as they fold in so seamlessly, you can teach them to new players and it feels like it was part of the entire experience the whole time

Easy to teach and play, surprisingly deep and fun

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

It's a game that takes about 2 minutes to teach, even to non-gamers. But it has a surprising amount of depth, and while it is so simple it probably shouldn't be good, there's just something fun enough about the way the gameplay and theme come together that you can't help but smile while you play. There's some sense of randomness because how fast you move is affected by how fast everyone else chooses to move, but when you watch someone cross the finish line ahead of you, you know it's your fault. Similarly, when you cross the finish line first, you know it's because you made ideal decisions on nearly every turn and you earned the victory. The positives of this game are many: it is easy to learn and play, it is very quick, there is almost 0 downtime as everyone makes their moves simultaneously, the theme is great, the components are rock-solid and frankly feel very classic - reminds me of childhood games so it has a bit of nostalgia factor as well, there is a surprising amount of strategy, and set up and teardown are quick and easy. It just his so much of the right stuff in the right combination that this will hit the table a lot regardless of the experience level of the people I am playing with. I could see the simplicity or theme putting people off. If you're into heavier games, this might just not do it for you. But give it a few games, let yourself see how the strategy works, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I could also see some of the fiddliness of this game putting people off. I don't mind it so much, but another person I know is a little turned off by it. Every few turns you need to reshuffle your deck, and it starts to happen more and more often as you get near the end of the race and your riders are more and more exhausted. That said, this can be mitigated somewhat since you don't need to shuffle TOO hard as your discard pile should be somewhat random anyway. Also I don't like that the base box only allows 4 players. Feels like a cheap way to get you to buy the expansion, which is hard to find at the time I'm writing this. In a game like this, the more players the merrier and I think this should have come with enough components for 5 or 6. But minor issues aside, this is a fun, quick, and surprisingly deep and exciting game that has something for hardcore board gamers and even people who never play board games. I recommend this one.

Family fun

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Can be played with gamers and there is certainly some crunch but it is mostly just a funny race game to spend time with people. Watch SUSD's review and playthrough if you want to see how great it is. Easy to get to the table and always a hit!

Fantastic game! Goes straight to a 10 out of 10. Easy to teach, easy to learn but full of strategy. You want to play again as soon as you finish your game. Buy it.
