Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies is a standalone sequel set in the world of Sleeping Gods. As in the original game, you and your friends trek through a vast landscape as you read branching storylines and meet vivid characters, but in this game you interact with the atlas on a deeper level - camping, exploring, overcoming obstacles, and searching for lost relics. The new action system allows you even greater agency while you travel and explore.
In addition to the exploration and quest system from the original game, Distant Skies features a fresh spin on combat. Players now build a combat deck from which they draw a varied hand of cards to play, making each combat encounter a fresh and dynamic puzzle.
Although Distant Skies builds on story elements in the first game, you do not need to play Sleeping Gods to enjoy this sequel. The game features new characters and storylines, explaining concepts from the original game as you encounter them. Return to the world of Sleeping Gods and experience a thrilling tale that hinges on your choices in a truly open-world experience!

A Narrative-driven Exploration Adventure in a Strange Land
Having never played a campaign-style board game, Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies caught my eye as a potentially streamlined and improved version of the original Sleeping Gods game. While perhaps less expansive and easier to explore than its predecessor, this game streamlines some of the combat and upkeep mechanics and makes for a more accessible experience. I found it to be an excellent point to join the Sleeping Gods game universe (the two games are independent of each other and stand-alone titles). While the gameplay is enjoyable, the focus is on the branching quests and narrative as you explore the world. The developer created a downloadable Veteran variant for more hard-core players that raises difficulty if you find the base game modes too easy. Distant Skies is an accessible and enjoyable entry point for gamers who wish to try campaign games, and can offer a challenge to more experienced players on harder difficulties.

If youve played the first one then youll love this. It takes the same great format but makes some quality of life tweaks. Same great art and concept.

Very excited about this one!
My wife and I are still in the first two hours of this game, but so far it is extremely good. I love the exploration and puzzly combat. This one is here to stay for the long haul.
