Research Has Never Been So Dangerous

The esteemed loremaster Volothamp Geddarm is back! He's written a fantastical dissertation, covering some of the most iconic monsters in the worlds of Dungeons & Dragons. But the Sage of Shadowdale himself, Elminster, doesn't believe Volo gets some of the details quite right. Don't miss out as Volo and Elminster team up to illuminate the uninitiated on creatures both common and obscure.

Sure to inspire any Dungeon Master, this book explores the lairs of various monsters, including giants, mind flayers, orcs, and goblinoids. Players can also find rules for playing a variety of new races, including the angelic aasimar and the feline tabaxi. Also included are game statistics for scores of monsters - some new to the game, and some that hail from the game's past - which are ready to appear in D&D adventures as mighty friends or fearsome foes.

For use with the 5th Edition Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Master's Guide.

Great literature for DMs.

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I've been playing DnD for a bit now and decided to switch over to the DM side of the screen. This book has been a great resource on how to build and play certain monsters and has given me great new ideas on how to build lairs and new creative encounters to run.

How to make monsters more interesting and tricky

Like the review title says. Plus, more variations on different races that can be used for PCs.

Fun things to read about. Some nice art. Happy with my purchase. Makes me want to run a Beholder in my next Campaign.

I'm enjoying this book. Loads of info. Good for being a monster PC or fleshing out that NPC you want to be around in a few campaigns.

Fun, educational, and worth every penny.

This book will advise you on how to play a campaign as a monster race in D&D 5e. It provides base states for 12 races and an idea of how to incorporate a party with one monster or a party of monsters into a story. Even if the races listed aren't appealing I think it's a must have for any Dungeon Master. Experience from using this book might prove useful in other roleplaying games as well.
