Dog Lover

I bought Dog Lover for my dog obsessed then 8 year old, who still loves it after a year. This is an easy set collection game, with adorable art and punny pet names and is an improvement on the Cat Lady system. The weakest part of the game was a part I was initially very interested in which is the advanced tricks- they give you the potential to pick up a lot of extra cards each turn but, we find that no one ever invests in them, because you also pick up a lot of stuff you don't want, which can make you lose points at end game. The thing I don't like about these types of games is you have to remove cards depending on player count to keep it balanced, which means less cute dogs:( But who cares about balance? ;)

This is a nice adaptation of Cat Lady. It has similar mechanics but they made enough changes to game play to make it unique. I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a quick game that plays just as well at 2 players as it does at 4.

I bought Dog Lover because I thought it sounded fun and the artwork/theme was cute. I was right on both counts and really enjoyed playing this game.

This is a fun game with a set collection type of mechanic. Collecting certain cards will give you exponential points and some cards won't score you points unless you pair them with other cards (like food) or find specific cards to make certain pairings more valuable. The game is fun, with a cool theme (if you love dogs) and can easily be played by kids as young as 6. But there is nothing overly special about the game and I think one might lose interest quickly after playing it a few times.

If you like Cat Lady, then get this game! It’s a nice upgrade with more choices and strategy!

Terrific, sweet, intriguing card game

My 13 year old and I played this game together. The theme is what drew us to the game since he loves all things dog. The cards are good quality and the theme of adopting, feeding, and training your dogs was strong. Would have liked the cubes to represent the types of dog food better but they were color coded so you could tell what was what. The game was a little long for what it was and seemed a little fiddly how you acquire cards and for scoring at the end. It’s a game we will play every once in a while when in the mood, but I don’t think it will be asked for every week.
