Wizard Kittens: Magical Monsters Expansion

This adds a fun new cat to the base game, and new monsters. The monsters are definitely more difficult to deal with than the regular curses. But it's a fun mechanic for the game, and makes it just a touch harder. You can always take them out when you want a simpler, faster game.

Wizard kittens is a semi coop set collection game, where players compete with each other to put the most curses back in the magic book before they're all caught by the teacher. This expansion should just have been included in the base game and due to extra space in the box, it looks like one more expansion is planned. I would not (and did not) buy this full price. I bought the base game for my seven year old, because it combines two of her favorite things- cats and magic. She absolutely loves it, so her rating would be a 5. However, as a parent, playing it with her it became a tad dull, rather fast- there's not many curse cards, so not much variety in replay. The addition of the expansion gives the base game that little something extra to make it feel like a complete game and more enjoyable to play with the added variety. Most of the fun is seeing just how excited my daughter is playing it and, somehow, she always wins. The base game feels incomplete, the expansion makes it feel like a full game and like I said it looks like they may to do one more expansion. So, get both the base and expansion together, on sale if you can. There's a 'take that' element due to card stealing and slinging, so know that going in if you're little gamers don't do well with that; although some house rules could be implemented to make it fully coop. Overall, it's a quick playing, little set collection game that kids grasp easily and will enjoy if they like the theme.
