Architects Rules School
Architects @ 0:49:07

Architects of the West Kingdom is set at the end of the Carolingian Empire, circa 850 AD. As royal architects, players compete to impress their King and maintain their noble status by constructing various landmarks throughout his newly appointed domain. Players will need to collect raw materials, hire apprentices and keep a watchful eye on their workforce. These are treacherous times. Rival architects will stop at nothing to slow your progress. Will you remain virtuous, or be found in the company of thieves and black marketeers?

West Kingdom games are great

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Got this after trying Paladins and really enjoying both, this one is a lot more approachable and easier to get to table which is great!

Beware of being virtuous

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Excellent worker placement! Always something to do and very fun combos with apprentices. My girlfriend smoked me though. I love the virtue scale. It is a fun addition for sure.

Loved it

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

After playing Raiders of the North Sea, we moved on to Architects and boy is it fantastic. I like that it has a solo mode and you can use Constantine in a 2-player. Highly recommend this trilogy.

Fun Worker Placement Game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Full disclosure, I came to the West Kingdom games in reverse order. First, Viscounts. Then, Paladins. Because of that, I didn't think that Architects could really offer anything that the other two couldn't, and the theme didn't interest me near as much, either. Well, I was wrong. Architects, though similar, offers a different enough experience that it's well worth owning. It's fun, easy to learn, and--as with the other WK games--offers multiple strategies to explore each game.

An excellent worker placement game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

for anyone with a bit of experience playing Worker-Placement games, Architects is a wonderful twist on the genre. This game does away with the standard everybody reclaim your workers at the end of the round step from most WP games. Instead, most spaces can support unlimited workers, and each player has an enormous pool of workers to use. What makes this system work so well is that players can freely arrest one-another's workers, and earn small bonuses for doing so. You can reclaim your workers on any turn to protect them from being arrested, but this causes you to lose any advantages you've gained by stacking up workers in a particular location. The tension of trying to maximize your workers without drawing too much attention to yourself is wonderful. Strongly recommend this game.
