Rob Looks At Resident Evil 2

Night has fallen over Raccoon City, and a shroud of darkness hides the horrors within. A viral outbreak has brought this once-prosperous town to its knees, infecting the populace and turning them into ravenous undead monsters. It is into this nightmare you are now thrown, another survivor desperately trying to escape with your life. Along the way you'll have to aid others like you, battle enemies unknown, and search for the sinister truth behind the disaster that has befallen Raccoon City.

Resident Evil 2: The Board Game is a fast-paced cooperative survival horror game for 1-4 players. Fun and tense little dice chucker

RE2 holds some of my all-time favorite video gaming moments. So I was excited to try this. I will say, the first couple plays had me kinda disappointed - I wasn't enjoying my apparent lack of agency in the strategy. A bit too dice-dependent, and I was missing a frustrating amount of my shots. But once I got more comfortable with what the game is, I started to see it more clearly. Sure, luck is a huge factor, but the systems are set up to encourage you to play it more like the video game, where shooting enemies down is often the last resort; escaping is the key. The narrow hallways of this game pair nicely with the enemy movement, and some of the cards that have enemies breaking through closed doors for example, really give that keep running, they're coming for you tension that feels true to the source. I look forward to playing a bunch more. It's not perfect, but I'm starting to see it shine. There has been much said about the map tiles, and I think I got a newer print because they're dark but not unreadable. That said, there isn't a ton of variety in them, and the graphic design overall (some of the tokens especially) should have been reworked for readability. Not a game breaker by any means. Also many of my cards are a bit flexed, but what are ya gonna do Last thing, my copy came with the wrong plastic nubs to hold ammo counters together. I got some small metal rivets for leatherwork from Michael's, and was able to adjust them and make them work, and the result looks rad. It seems to be a common problem. Anyway, if you like RE, it's worth a shot. I got it on sale here for $35 and that was a fantastic deal. Don't think I'd pay the usual $80 for it, but for 50 or so, I'd say go for it.

Sick!!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This game is great! It stays true to the original resident evil 2 game in terms of mechanics and gameplay. We got the updated print version, where the tile graphics are easier to see. It’s a very detailed board as well. There’s 8 missions to play, each increasing in difficulty. Some caveats, the instructions can be up to interpretation, and even consulting videos have conflicting answers. We decided to play by house rules on uncertain things. (However, we are playing with an 8 year old, and we wanted to make it a more fun experience instead of frustrating). I picked this up on Black Friday, and it was well worth the value. Every time you complete a mission, you can carry some items over to the next level. If you are a resident evil fan this is a definitely a buy. Each mission take anywhere from 45min-2 hours. Once you get the hang of it though, it’ll go much faster.

RE2 videogame ported as Boardgame

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This game fully captures the videogame's essence, you really feel the tension and horror while advancing to the scenarios. It has also a big pro, while all scenarios are based on the VG, they do their job by allowing you to remember the experience, but also achieve to feel unique. Only drawback was first print had terribly dark components, but it was fixed in second print.

Such a great game!

We absolutely love the game! Had a blast playing through the first couple missions and it was really easy to get the hang of. The tiles were really fun to explore and fight zombies in too.

I was actually surprised

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

I bought this game in a hesitant way, as I heard a lot of people complaining about miniature quality, let me tell you they are pretty good, definitely not the best in the market, but they are pretty good! Component wise, yes the tiles are kinda dark, and the better organized you are, the faster you are gonna set up your game (cause it might take 10-15 minutes to set every map) Other minor complaint is that the tiles are not labeled so you can actually use ANY tile to set up a map faster, as long as it follows the same shape. This game is best as a 1-2 player game, but in my believe a must have for ANY resident evil fan.
