The Isle of Cats: Kittens & Beasts Expansion

Isle of Cats is one of my top 5 favorite games. The Kitten expansion is awesome, they are all so darn adorable! My group loves them and we all fight to be first to get to draft the kittens! With the added Beast expansion, it gives us an easier way to get some points by making friends with them! They are all unique looking along with the new beast meeples. This has definitely made my all-nighter gaming group's day and night!

Not only is this expansion cute visually, but the kittens module is great for filling in small gaps left by bigger cats. They're especially helpful later in the game when you may be stuck unable to find space to grow your cat families with larger cats. The Beasts module is very nice as well, giving you a little challenge of arranging it so all the beast's favorite cat colors can be optimally joined up into families. Of the modules in this expansion, it's really the simplest, in my oppinion. You're just taking up space that a cat normally would, and you're constraining yourself on where to place the rest of your cats. Hardly any rules change. My husband played the Events module solo, and reports that it's just a little fiddly, having to refer back to the list of tiles every round, but otherwise it apparently requires you to plan ahead for things like maximizing visible rats to score in one round before covering them up before the end game. All-in-all, it's a great expansion that I highly recommend to fans of the base game.

We have only played the Beasts module of this expansion so far, but the next time we play we'll be adding in the other 2 modules. The Beasts are great as they make you think about how you want to do things a little differently. It adds more variety to the game, which is always great. While we haven't played with the Kittens module yet, I do like the idea of it. It's another potential bonus for whoever is willing to play the boots to be the first player that round. I'm looking forward to trying the Events as well as that is another strategy you can implement to score points. Overall, this expansion is a must of you enjoy playing the game and are looking for additional strategies and bonuses.
