Dice and Dragons

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is an interesting dice game. On your turn you roll a fist-full of dice based on the level of the camp you/re using, and have to choose one result of the roll to bank. You can only bank a number once, though, otherwise you lose your highest banked die. You need to try to bank as high a number as you can to catch monsters, but you also want to bank low results, as that is how you upgrade your camps. The solo mode is fun, but feels a little too easy, though you can always try to play for high score if you want. I haven't played with others yet, but it seems like it could be quite a bit of fun if you like rolling dice with your friends..

Exotic dice hunt

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I have only played the solo version, but it is a quick game with enough decisions to make you want to play again.

Engaging and fun game.

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I played this game at a game convention and really liked the artwork. After finishing it, I immediately wanted to buy it. The rules were easy to learn and the game had enough engaging mechanics to keep me interested throughout the whole game.

Carnival of Monsters light

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

If you liked Carnival of Monsters, you'll enjoy this one as well. Lighter, but still very enjoyable.

Engaging, press your luck at a great price.

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Learned this at a friends house who had already discovered it. Nice press tour luck game with most turns yielding something helpful. You want to roll a high total to acquire available monsters, but low value dice can help you improve your campsite (which means you can get more dice to use on future turns). There is some player interaction, but nothing devastating, so good for kids. AND there is a ten level solo campaign you can work your way through!

Light, breezy fun

Average rating of 3 out of 5 stars

Monster Expedition, from one of the best current game designers, Alexander Pfister, is short and fun game that should work well for either families or solo gamers. Basically all you are doing is rolling dice to try to capture monsters that can give you some small powers to make the game easier going forward. This will probably be a disappointment for those looking for one of Pfister's bigger designs, but should work well for those looking for something easy to get to the table.

Great game that is quick to play. Dice-chucking and monster capturing is done really well, and while there is an element of randomness, you can still capture and score quite easily to build up your collection.
