Rising Sun - Rules School
Prepping Miniatures - Part 1
Painting Tutorial - Part 1

Cherry blossoms fall
Strength and honor shape the land
The sun is rising

Set in legendary feudal Japan, Rising Sun places players in control of the great clans, gathering by the mighty Kami to reshape the lands and return them to their honorable, spiritual traditions.

Each clan will use their unique abilities to spread their forces across the provinces, build their strongholds, harvest the land to reap its rewards, and wage war against each other. As the seasons change from spring, to summer, and to autumn, players may upgrade their clans with strategic enhancements, bountiful virtues, and even powerful monsters out of legend to aid their cause. The clans would also be wise to give worship to the gods, as each Kami may grant them powerful abilities. However, diplomacy can be an even more powerful tool, as the clans forge alliances for mutual benefit, and negotiate their way towards victory. In this political arena, honor is more valuable than gold, although betrayal can turn the tides of war. Battles are won, not just by sheer force, but by strategy and cunning.

Choose your path wisely, and your allies carefully. When the winter snow covers the land, will you be the one chosen to rule the land of the Rising Sun?

Beautiful design, but…

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Full disclosure: I bought this for the miniatures, not the game. The game is a basic area control battle with various multipliers and strategic elements. Outcomes are based on occupation and the results of strategic bidding. As to the miniatures, they range from amazing to just meh. The Dragonfly clan has overall disappointing sculpts with the daimyo and Shinto figures being the exceptions. The Bonsai clan is decent, but uninspired. The Koi clan (all female) provides a nice selection of sculpts. My favorites are the Lotus and Turtle clans. The Lotus could easily be ninja or sohei. I was initially annoyed that the turtle clan appear to be non-human, but, as they have the most impressive sculpts, it’s hard not to like them. Where Rising Sun really shines , is its large sculpts. The oni are amazing. For those familiar with Ankh and Blood Rage (both very similar in overall strategy), the miniature sculpts probably rank lowest overall, with the large sculpts being on a level with Blood Rage. I’ll definitely get plenty of use out of them, but I wish they were as nice as the ones in the Dynasty Invasion expansion.

Blood Rage + Ikusa

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Rising Sun scratches the strategy itch that I developed after many plays of Blood Rage. I greatly appreciate the fact that you can't get screwed over by a single random card in the first round like what happened in my last play of Blood Rage.

Rising Sun 5/5

Love it. Down to its core, I enjoy everything about this game. The interactions, the mechanics, and the theme are a home run for any board game enthusiast even remotely interested in feudal Japan and fantasy.

Rising Sun Game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Rising Sun is an extremely interesting and fun game. At the start of the game you are encouraged to have a tea ceremony, but we decided to swap that out for an actual hamburger ceremony instead. This game can take anywhere from 1 hour to 5 hour in our experience. The number of minis provided to each clan seem small at first but it works out in the favor of the game and makes it more interesting.

Great Game, Great Price!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Bought this game because of Adrian Smith, but the game itself is just satisfying! Great minis and amazing attention to detail with the gameplay. Samurais, Jhins and Dragon! Can't possibly be upset!

Great game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Really good intro game to more heavy strategy based games. Don't listen to naysayers about the 'kickstarter effect' as even though the game has a lot of pretty plastic, there's some really good mechanics here that make for a solid strategy game overall.
