Infinity: Ariadna - USAriadna Grunts (4)

A bit of work to put these into playing form but great minis

Product arrived on time. Fine quality miniatures.

The miniatures are simply superb, as we have come to expect from Corvus Belli. Considering that they are metal miniatures and their quality, I find the price more than reasonable, particularly compared with other companies out there. As to game play, Infinity is one of the most dynamic, innovative and well balanced game I´ve ever played and the grunts are excellent defensive infantry. This box is a must buy to complement the grunts from the starter box and to give you some special weapons.

As the previous reviewer noted, this box is great for creating a Core-linkteam of USA Grunts. Gives you one of every SWC (Special Weapons) loadout for your cheap armor 3 troops. The problem comes when you need more than one box. For example, you run the flamethrower loadout and decide that you love to have more. Unless you want to proxy a Marauder as a Grunt, you will have to buy another box. This goes for any loadout included in the box. Want to have duo or more Snipers? Grab one or more boxes. HMG? Same thing. Plus you will have extra loadouts of the other weapons that you might never use. You can proxy or convert the weapons into rifles. The Grenade Launcher should be able to easily proxy as a normal rifle but the HMG or Sniper will need some work done on them. Not too much intensive work in my opinion but for a beginner it might seem a challenging task. Good thing they can buy the Ariadna Spec-Ops model and practice on the Sniper-Rifle & HMG that comes with him. I think people should only buy two of these boxes at most. Giving a full Core-linkteam of Grunts: 1 HMG, 1 Sniper & 1 Grenade Launcher will equal 2 SWC. That is a third of the total SWC allowed in a 300 point Infinity match. 300 points=6 SWC. 200 points=4 SWC. 150 points=3 SWC. As you can see while the SWC for these weapons are cheap and they are good in a Grunt linkteam, the SWC adds up quick. The weapons themselves can be used outside of a linkteam but they shine with the bonuses that a link gives them. The only weapon that has equal or better use (depending on who you ask) is the flamethrower. An Infiltrating flame template is nothing to sneeze at in Infinity and is a very viable + useful option to have in Vanilla (non-sectorial) Ariadna or USAriadna. Just remember that the normal Flamethrower Grunt doesn't use any SWC but lacks Infiltration. So in closing, only get two boxes unless you plan on running/making a list completely using Grunts (that might not be a bad idea). 2 Grenade Launchers (2 SWC) + 2 HMG (2 SWC) + 2 Sniper Rifles (1 SWC) + 2 Infiltrating Flamethrowers (1 SWC) = 6 SWC. So if you use all the models in two Grunt boxes equals the most SWC you can use in a 300 point ITS rules match. If you really need/want more Rifle Grunts then grab another USAriadna Army Box (USA starter set + Chain Rifle/Shotgun Devil Dog Team & Shotgun Maverick) or the USAriadna starter set. Both come with three Rifle Grunts plus 1 Flamethrower Marauder, 1 Twin Flamethrower Minuteman & 1 Rifle Foxtrot. You will get more options/units for building your lists while getting more bang for your buck.

I just recently received my order of Ariadna grunts and I can not believe of how great these sculpts are. The sheer detail involved in each model almost seems to bring them to life. I haven't had a chance to paint it yet but I'm looking forward to taking full advantage of the quality of these sculpts. On the table these box will add the versatility the grunts were missing in their SWC choices, providing you with the heavy flamethrower for the inferior infiltration choice, the sniper rifle, the light grenade option, and my personal favorite the HMG. I cannot recommend this for anyone with a budding USAriadna force.
