More area control than I thought
That really is the main mechanic in this game, there are some other empire building actions you can do but at its heart it's a medium-light area control game.

Good game
The game was good, and I'd have no problem playing again, but it wouldn't be the first to the table.

Fun, with some depth to it, too
I picked this up during the Black Friday sale. I think it was a good purchase. While it isn't Twilight Imperium, it doesn't need to be, even if you were in outer space finding resources and such. My son and I enjoyed it for what it was, which is a quick and fun resource acquisition game in outer space. There is quite a bit of replayability, as well as a possibility for more complex gameplay which I have not tried. But I would be worth your time, I think. Especially if you get it on sale.

Great Lite Version of Some Bigger Behemoths!
If Eclipse is a lite version of Twilight Imperium, then Horizons is a lite version of Eclipse! What a fantastic game to introduce someone to this style of gaming! The Components are well thought out and the box houses things simply and easily for game setup. The instructions are well laid out and easy to learn. We've played this game in both two-player and maximum number of players and it is just as fun in either setup. If you've ever wanted to pick up Eclipse or Twilight Imperium, but the time the games take is too daunting for you, grab a copy of Horizons. This game is an absolute delight.
