Battle Line: Medieval

Like most other Knizia games, BL:M distills interesting play to its fundamentals and offers a tense tug-of-war experience. When you first read the rules, the game seems too simplistic to be any fun — but just try it out, it's great.

It's a great two-player game with a quick setup and rules that are easy to learn. The meat of the game is in tracking what cards are available and anticipating the sets that your opponent will play.

This is one of GMT's best selling games for a reason. It is a simple game that can turn into a real brain burner. Quality card stock, simple rules and variants if you want to change things up.

At first it seems like this game was going to be a little too simple, but it quickly becomes clear that there is a lot to think about during play. Definitely goes in the easy to learn, hard to master category.

We love play it with my wife! Reiner Knizia is a master of math based board games. You need to choose you tactics based on cards in your hand and win the batle. You can be lucky in this game, but if you do not know how to manage your hand, you will lose.

Fast, strategic, 2 player card game. Play multiple games in a row trying to beat your opponent with the best card combination. Easy to learn and teach, but timelessly fun. Classic must have game!

This game exceeded my expectations. There is a lot of thought to be put into every turn of yours. The ability to prove that you can/can't win a battleground will have you silently (or not so silently) cursing your stupidity in previous rounds. To put it in perspective, my wife, who doesn't like war or GMT games for that matter, wanted to immediately play another game of this after our first one ended. Neither of us had an issue with differentiating the suits based on color. Though, we found we were both paying attention to the shapes of the suits. Definitely a fantastic addition to our game collection.
