Nidavellir & Stone @ 49:17

Nidavellir, the Dwarf Kingdom, is threatened by the dragon Fafnir. As a venerable Elvaland, you have been appointed by the King. Search through every tavern in the kingdom, hire the most skillful dwarves, recruit the most prestigious heroes, and build the best battalion you can to defeat your mortal enemy!

Each turn in Nidavellir, bid a coin on each tavern. In descending order, choose a character and add this character to your army. Each dwarf class has its own scoring way: blacksmith, hunter, warrior, explorer, and miner. A meticulous recruitment will allow you to attract a powerful hero to your army. You will also be able to increase the value of your gold coins thanks to the smart "coin-building" system, and get the best of the other Elvalands.

Quick set collection game

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This is a pretty quick game with different sets that have different values. It is actually a card version of Clever. It is fun and interesting art. I would recommend the expansion.

As fun to play as it is to say!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Nidavellir is an excellent set collection game with an interesting bidding mechanic that makes every decision feel meaningful. The unique ability to improve your coins for future rounds makes deciding what cards you want almost as important as deciding what cards you don't want. The component quality is good and the art is excellent. My only small knock is the decision-making isn't quite as deep in a 2-player game due to there always being one dwarf not drafted in each tavern. However, it is still fun to play with 2-players, and the game shines at 3+.

Collecting Dwarfs

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This is a very good strategy game. The mix of a solid auction mechanic, married to a set collection scoring system is very intuitive and enjoyable. The game is really in the auction, a mechanic that I love but may not be for everyone.

Nidavellir is such a great game! It became one of our family's favorites right away. The game goes so quick that you can get several games in a row in one night. Bidding is super fun, and trying all different kinds of strategies to get the best score is rewarding. Great game!

Fun game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

The first time I played through Nidavellir on BGA I was left wishing there was a bit more to it, but after playing it a bit more it started to pique the interest of my inner math nerd. All the different ways of scoring got me thinking of different strategies for winning and now it is one of my favorite games. It was because of BGA I decided to get a physical copy to play with some friends, and I was quite pleased when I found it available on Miniature Market.

Great Set Collection and Auction Game

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

I don't normally enjoy set collection games, and auction games are pretty hit-and-miss with me, but this title is fantastic IMHO for both mechanisms. Losing an auction doesn't mean you come away empty-handed; rather, it's just an auction for turn order in picking cards from the auction row. The set collection is really interesting too, because you're always being pulled in two different directions; do you complete a full set of banners, to recruit another (very powerful) hero? Or do you focus in just 1 or 2 banner colors, to maximize the points for those? When you DO get a hero, which one do you take? There are quite a few, and they all match different strategies. On top of all that, the coin upgrade system is really fun and fantastic. You always have five coins with which to bid. Whenever you bid your 0-value coin, you get to upgrade the higher of your two leftover coins that round. You start with coins of values 0, 2, 3, 4, and 5, but the bank has coin values up to 25! The higher coins obviously let you bid more effectively, but at the same time you add the sum of all of your coins at game-end for scoring purposes. Just a really fun, light, quick-to-teach game, that has a lot of good decisions throughout. Highly recommended!
