The Great Little Trains of Wales

The enthusiasm for railways grew with the development of steam power at a time when horsedrawn wagons were no longer sufficient to meet the transportation demands of industry. In Wales, rich deposits of ore, coal, stone, and slate needed to find their way out of the rugged hills to the rapidly-expanding ports and (from there) the rest of the world. Many of these distinct, individual Welsh industrial railways still operate today but people, rather than minerals, are their cargo.
The game takes two players on a construction journey through the breathtaking countryside of Wales: from the glistening shores of Cardigan Bay through huddled villages sheltering in the shadow of the mountains to the black pits of the mines; there has never been a better way to travel such a mystic land than by rail...but somebody had to build it all in the first place. Welcome to the Foothills!

Cool action selection mechanism for 2p

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Super unique action selection mechanism here. Love that after you pick an action, it flips over to a different version of a different action. Haven't seen it used in any other game and it's a really challenging puzzle

Nice slightly heavy 2 player

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

It's a good 2 player game for when you're looking for something a little heavier, but not quite as heavy as Fields of Arle. A good change from our usual lighter games.

Enjoyable, but possibly broken

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

I enjoyed my plays of Foothills, but like others have said, this game may be broken. There are ways to end up stuck, without being able to activate all your cards. And there are ways to keep the game going in a loop by controlling the outcome of the white cubes. If you can overlook these faults, and perhaps house rules some things as others have, you can have fun with this game. Otherwise, it could go on for much, much longer than the box time indicates.

Takes too long to set up.

Average rating of 3 out of 5 stars

Great game, but setup takes 15-20 minutes(our initial setup took an hour and a half), and instructions are vague. We liked it, but we spent a long time watching videos on how to play, and we still aren't sure if we are playing correctly.

Snowdonia for two

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This is a lighter, smaller twist to original game big box game: snowdonia. An exclusive 2p game that has a very clever hand management action-selection, with double-sided action cards. Each of these has a weak and strong action, and that makes the game tense as quite often you are facing yourself to play strong action sides, but as these flip over, at some point you have to use their weaker side actions. That and the constant possibilities that opponent may leave out on the tracks makes it a quite engaging game. Be careful on not pushing for the end-game! if you go back and forth without pushing the game till the end it may take longer than what it's intended to be.
