An iconic symbol of wilderness, the Canada lynx is an important part of Canadian ecology and history. Lynx are top predators and predominantly hunt snowshoe hare. Because of this, abundance of snowshoe hare directly affects the abundance of lynx and vice versa. This relationship has become the classic example of predator-prey cycling.
In
Lynx, each player takes the role of a late 18th-century fur trapper in the Hudson's Bay region of northern Ontario exploiting the lynx-hare cycle and outwitting other trappers. Each player starts indebted to the Hudson's Bay Company which supplied them with traps in agreement that all pelts be sold exclusively to them.
In order to succeed, you need to time not just market demand, but also the balance of lynx and hare population.
By trapping when the lynx are plentiful and selling pelts at high prices, the trapper who earns the most money pays off their debt and becomes a free trapper.
Will you be a company man or a free trapper?
