Age of Heroes @ 1:03:45

Marvel: Age of Heroes is an epic strategy game in which each player commands a duo of X-Men who are dispatched to defeat villains and complete objectives in unique and challenging scenarios. The winning team will collect resources mange their skills, train their mutants, and outpace the competition, earning victory points on the way.

Rodney Thompson, co-designer of Lords of Waterdeep, weaves the theme and strategy together through a mix of mutant placement and resource management. Scenarios, asymmetric abilities, mutant ally cards, and scoring conditions mix in endless combinations for uncanny playability.

The cards and game boards have a gorgeous dreamscape art effects as if a powerful telepath is seeing them through Cerebro, and players' heroes are represented by a set of striking full-color acrylic standees. Teams include fan-favorites like Wolverine & Jubilee, Jean Grey & Cyclops, Forge & Storm, and more!

Not that super

Average rating of 3 out of 5 stars

Althought the game mechanics are simple worker placement, all the thematic tie ins make it a bit cumbersome. The powers aren't that great, and it becomes a chore to slowly build up power and strengh to fight the bad guys. It is thematic, but the theme gets in the way. Sadly the worker placement slots are too few and since you build them up with cards sometimes you end up with great slots at the beggining of the game, that turn out to be terrible at the end. Or you never get the cards you need so the game drags. It works for theme fans, but no so much for board game players.

Not so Marvelous

Average rating of 3 out of 5 stars

Simple mechanics in an engaging theme, with some issues. A worker placement where the spaces are cards sounds cool, and it sounds even better when they tell you is X-Men-themed. But there are some serious problems with it: You ran out of good card slots to play, so at a point in the game, you just accept that the worker placement spots were good for the first few rounds and now you have to live with it. The asymmetric powers are not balanced, this is optional, but since you want to feel like gambit you will most likely try them out. The are is cool, on the cards. The standees are like a weird 3D 2000 graphics cheap cartoon. The theme is in the art, the rest is just cubes and worker placement stuff. So there isn't anything new or innovative about the game. You will like it, if and only if, you love the theme. Plus you have to be ready to invest some time in the game since the worker placement slots get crappier or less useful as the game progresses, the ending takes quite some time.

My new favorite game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

From the very beginning, this game was a very easy to learn. I played a lot of Lords of water deep. So this was refreshing to have some Marvel characters in a game I like to play. Definitely highly recommended buying this if you are interested in games like Lords of water deep
