If you like Star Trek...........look elsewhere

Average rating of 3 out of 5 stars

This game is about as exciting as watching grass grow. While playing I looked at the other players several times and asked "is this it?". Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Star Trek and all, but there is really not much going on here. I would save the money and put it into a different game with the "Star Trek" model.

Dice-placing cooperative game with Star Trek theme

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Fans of the series will love this game. Uncover Alert cards to determine which dice you'll need to resolve a problem. Resolve 10 problems with points attached, and you win the game. Fail just 5 missions, and you lose. The theme of the series is all over, but could be interchangeable with other properties, so the mechanic is somewhat universal. But it's like Firefly: The Game -- if you're a fan, you're going to have a lot more fun. Each player has their own special abilities, which they can activate on their turn, if they choose. Alert cards can trigger other alerts, the ship can take damage, and players can sustain injuries. Some of the cards have a timed element, some cards have a Prime Directive initiative attached, and others have sets of dice that must be placed at the same time. This game reminded me of the new Fuze game from Renegade Game Studios, but without the real-time mechanic. So you have more time to strategize with other players. Also, unlike a lot of co-op games, I didn't find anyone quarterbacking during the game, so it made it a truly "all hands on deck" situation. Worth the money, for sure.

Suprisingly Difficult, Completely Fun

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

You and at least 2, but up to 6 friends, take on the roles of crew members aboard either the old constitution class NCC-1701, or the TNG flagship, NCC-1701-D. This is a cooperative game, where in each player rolls a set of dice, and attempts to solve 'Alerts,' or at least make some progress on them. There are many levels of difficulty from Ensign to Admiral. The game mechanics are simple, but surprisingly fun. I was shocked at how quickly the game can catch players unaware and quickly turn what looks like a winning game into a losing one. A little bit of bad luck can change the board very quickly. When communications failure hits, everyone panics a little bit. In short - it is a very fun, surprisingly challenging game.
