Undaunted Stalingrad @ 32:00

Stalingrad, 1942. Before you awaits a grueling conflict in this cornerstone battleground. As the bullets and bombs tear the city asunder, only through wits and valor can you seize the cornerstone of the entire Eastern Front and change the course of history.

A heavy burden rests on your shoulders. Every casualty suffered in battle will weaken your forces for the entire campaign. Every bomb blast and mortar shell leaves the very ground for which you are fighting in further ruin. Every inch lost to the enemy brings you closer to the jaws of defeat. Over the course of up to fifteen branching scenarios, you will decide the fate of Stalingrad and, perhaps, the war itself. Even though the consequences of your actions will persist, the game itself can be fully reset and replayed, allowing you to explore every potential outcome.

Undaunted: Stalingrad is a monumental standalone game that expands the series' scope and challenge beyond anything that's come before. Featuring more than 300 unique illustrations by Roland MacDonald and 150 evocative mission briefings written by acclaimed author Robbie MacNiven, immerse yourself in this campaign at the heart of the war.

Stalingrad is next level

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Stalingrad is easily the best of the Undaunted series. The campaign element takes the mechanics to the next level. I can't wait to see if they carry the campaign concept over to other games.

Hard Hitting Light War Game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

My first Undaunted game, and it feels fantastic. A war game for two players, that uses deck building to sort of simulate squad based platoon combat. The deck-building feels good in practice, and feels substantially different from other deck-builder board games like Clank! or Dominion. The largest difference between those and Undaunted: Stalingrad is that there are no trash cards in your deck, and every soldier matters. The moment to moment game play plays fast and often hits hard, where the dice element of luck is often trumped by superior maneuvering and forward thinking deck management, adding the right units in before you need them. The only minor criticism is some missions in the campaign feel off, as downright unbalanced too far towards one player, and can result in frustration. I strongly recommend this game to wargaming or even deck-building enthusiasts.

Early Results Say This is a Great Game

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Admittedly I'm only two missions into the campaign, but I'm really enjoying this game. The way the game forces you to make decisions by providing multiple options for you one action per card makes your decisions matter. And unlike some games where one optimal decision is obvious and you aren't really making much of a choice, here, especially with the campaign rules, you aren't just weighing the possible actions for the current game state, but for the future missions.

Undaunted: 4th of the series

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

The components are top-notch, and the rules are easy to learn although I'd suggest some of the great youtube videos on how to play. This one is playing out to be the best of the series although the next Battle for Briton is due out soon too!! Highly Recommended series.

Tried and True System Made Better

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I am about half way through a campaign with another player right now and although Undaunted as a series is fun enough as one off games. The campaign system gives the entire system bite to every decision you make. Now there's a reason to consider giving up in a game for the long view of strategic advantage if you're in danger of being tabled. My only real criticisms is that the table artwork of the city itself seems rather bland and a more high contrast cartoon design to match the card art rather than the semi-realistic muted colors would have been appreciated. And while the campaign briefing notes are fun, in other ways they feel basic in that you probably won't remember many of your individual card soldier names and at best maybe your commanders who are never in danger of dying during the campaign (so far). Overall though I highly recommend if you already love how Undaunted plays. If you're not a fan of Undaunted or brand new, maybe get a few games of the Normandy box or watch some playthroughs to see if this is the game for you.
