Monastic Economy During the Middle AgesEach player has a landscape with a Clay Mound, a Cloister Office, and a Farmyard, He receives livestock, grains, coins, or clay when he places his clergymen onto these buildings. How many goods he receives depends on the position of the goods indicator on the production wheel. Whenever a goods type is taken, the corresponding goods indicator is moved back to 0. Each time the production wheel is rotated at the start of a round, all production is increased.There are two other goods at the start of the game: wood and peat. These can only be obtained when a forest or moor card is removed from a player's landscape. Players can buy additional landscapes to add to their starting landscape. These landscapes can provide room to build buildings with building materials as well as settlements with food and energy. Some of the buildings are special cloister buildings. Since these must always be built adjacent to other cloister buildings, a cloister of ever-increasing size develops that the player can be rewarded for with the House of Brotherhood.The settlements are of special interest in the game. They must be cleverly built next to other buildings and settlements so that they are worth as many points as possible at the end of the game. Whoever has carried out God's work with prayer and hard work at the end of the game is the winner.Ora & Labora includes two sets of game rules - a shorter, narrative set and a longer, more detailed set. This replacement kit is intended to make your copies of the game everything they were intended to be.Wooden Rapport Tokens   If 10 of your 15 rapport tokens did not come with printed icons, keep the printed one in color. Replace the 10 tokens that are blank on both sides with the 10 printed ones in this kit.Legendary Title Cards   There should be a total of 30 legendary title cards, 5 each of 6 types. Add these 24 to the 6 included in your game to total 30. In some instances, we have incorrectly referenced these as "legendary power" cards.Renown Tokens   The correct renown tokens should be double-sided with a "-2" honor and red background on one side. Replace all 32 renown tokens with the 32 included here.Cheat Sheet   The original base game cheat sheet (with the top reading "A Player's Turn") has been updated to refernce the unified rulebook. For over forty years the continent of Europe has been divided by an "Iron Curtain" that separates East from West. In 1986 Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev launches a new program of reforms with glasnost (openness) and in 1988 perestroika (restructuring), in an attempt to revitalize the Soviet Union. Gorbachev has also announced unilateral arms reductions that are wildly popular in the West. Possibly the long "twilight struggle" between these two international superpowers is finally coming to an end.However, these Soviet changes are not popular with everyone. For the Communist governments of Eastern Europe, the force of Soviet arms had always protected them from the rebellions of their own people. Now the Eastern European Communists are on their own.In 1989: Dawn of Freedom, players will recreate the momentous revolutions of 1989, using a system similar to the award-winning boardgame Twilight Struggle by GMT Games.One player is the Communist. He will need to use a wise combination of crackdowns, concessions, and reforms to try to hold onto power. The other player is the Democrat. He will try to use the leadership of the intellectuals and the street protests of the students to generate a critical mass of opposition to the regimes in order to launch a revolution. Both players will try to swing the workers to their side. At the start of the game, the Communist player holds power in each country. The Democrat player will attempt to topple the Communist from power through resolution of scoring cards. The longer the Communist retains power in a country, the more points he scores.
