The Review Board

Posted by The Review Board on Apr 19, 2018

This is the 6th and final part of my NYC Toy Fair photo story. Part 5 covered games by Ravensburger, Golden Games, Stronghold Games, Devir, Sensible Object, R&R Games, Identity Games, Restoration Games, and Mayday Games. If you missed it, you can find it here.

IELLO

Decrypto is a code decryption game for 3 to 8 players, in which two teams try to correctly decode coded messages given to them by their team members, while also intercepting and deciphering the codes of the opposing team. You can find my full photo story of Decrypto here.

Raids (work in progress, components are not final)

In Raids 2-4 players send their crew and longships to different locations to discover treasure and attain glory.

Players can order their Vikings to board opponents’ ships and threaten them to flee the area. The player with the most Glory points wins the game.

Fairy Tile (pictures are of the prototype; Fairy Tile is already released)

In Fairy Tile 2-4 players develop the kingdom by placing new land tiles and moving the Princess, Knight and Dragon across the land. Players try to complete objectives that are written on the pages of a book (the cards), and the player who reads all the pages of his or her book wins the game.

The Legend of the Cherry Tree That Blossoms Every Ten Years (pictures are of the prototype)

2-4 players rush to collect the flowers which fall to the ground before they wither. The player who gathers the most flowers (draw them from a bag) will have his or her wish granted by the cherry tree.

At the end of the turn, each player either puts his/her flowers in front of the screen to gain victory points based on sets of flowers, or behind the screen to gain victory points for having the largest groups of flowers. The player with the most points wins the game

IELLO/ LOKI

Loki is a new sub-brand by IELLO with games aimed at families with kids (4-8 years old and adults with young spirits).

Troll & Dragon is a 1-4 player push-your-luck game, in which players roll dice and try to steal diamonds and gold from the dungeon. After each roll, the player can either re-roll to get more treasures or stop and add loot to the bag. If a player summons the troll he or she loses all the diamonds.

If a player manages to get both the Door and Key, that player enters the Treasure Cavern and can collect gold nuggets; the other players try to wake up the dragon (they roll another set of dice), and if they manage to do so, they get some of the gold. The player with the most points wins.

Farmini is an observation and cards placement game for up to 4 players. In Farmini, players try to expand their farm by adding cards (fences, animals, etc.) to it. Players have to be mindful of their animals and protect them, because if they get a wolf card it might scare away the unprotected animals

SOS Dino is a stunning cooperative game in which up to 4 players try to help dinosaurs escape the lava.

Players take a random tile from the bag, and add them to the board (carrying any needed actions). Players also move the dinosaurs, gather dinosaurs’ eggs and try to get both of them to safety at the top of the mountains.

Asmodee

Unlock! Three new escape rooms (Unlock! The Adventures of Oz, Unlock! Tombstone Express, and Unlock! A Noside Story) are scheduled to be released this year.

TAGS (due release Q3 of 2018)

TAGS is a fast paced guessing game for 2-4 players.

Players have 15 seconds to come up with answers that starts with a specific letter to different categories. Players collect marbles for correct answers, and the player with the most marbles wins the game.

Attack of the Jelly Monster is a tactical party game for 3-5 players. Players roll 7 dice and place them on different districts of the city in an attempt to control them. Players have to be cunning, strategic and ready for chaos, because only one player can control a district and all players play simultaneously.

Fae (due release Q2 2018) is a redesign of the game Clans. In Fae, players try to score as many points for their color and win the game. The tricky part? colors are assigned randomly and kept hidden until the end.

The board contains several regions, each of which consists of five different areas. Players’ huts are distributed across these areas. Players can move huts from one area to another, but they have to do so in a way that does not reveal which color is theirs. Once at least 12 areas are scored (an area surrounded by empty areas) the game ends, and the player with the highest score wins.

Princess Jing (due release Q3 2018) is a beautiful bluffing game for two players. In Princess Jing, each player moves his or her princess across a maze-like board, and tries to hide the princess’s location. Players also place allies and mirrors to expose their opponent’s princess. The first player able to place his or her princess in front of the captain who waits for her, wins the game.

Choose Your Own Adventure: House of Danger (due release Q3 2018) is a new narrative based game that brings to life (and to the table) the classic Choose Your Own Adventure book series.

In Choose Your Own Adventure: House of Danger, you and your fellow players have to make risky choices, face challenges, and collect clues to solve the mystery of the House of Danger. Much like in the books, you can explore many paths that lead to various results. Thus, you can play the game several times and explore the deck as much as you like.

I hope you enjoyed my coverage of the NYC Toy Fair. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please let me know.
