Yinsh is a tempestuous game! The players each start with 5 rings on the board. Every time a ring is moved, it leaves a marker behind. Markers are white on one side and black on another. When markers are jumped over by a ring they must be flipped, so their color is constantly changing.

In Yinsh, the player must try to form a row of 5 markers iwth their own color face up. If a player succeeds in doing so, he removes one of his rings as an indication that he has formed such a row. The first player to remove 3 of his rings wins the game. In other words, each row you make brings you close to victory - but also makes you weaker, because you have one less ring to play with. Very tricky!

Yinsh: Elegantly Abstract

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Yinsh is a beautiful two-player abstract game. Much like Othello, players are constantly flipping two-sided chips to make them their color. Unlike Othello, players are competing to get five of their color in a row via ring movements. When a player makes a row of five, the chips are removed along with one of their 5 rings leaving them at a disadvantage. This creates a sort of tug-of-war type match. The rules are simple, but the strategy is deep. The components are a nice hard plastic. The board would be better if it was wood, but that would increase the cost considerably. If you like abstract games, this one is a must have.

Unique abstract game

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Easy to learn abstract game, similar to checkers in some ways but with much more strategy. In fact, it is all about strategy. There is zero luck involved in this game and that is one of the things I like most about it.
