Wayfarers @ 1:35:00

Wayfarers of the South Tigris is set during the height of the Abbasid Caliphate, circa 820 AD. As brave explorers, cartographers and astronomers, players set off from Baghdad to map the surrounding land, waterways, and heavens above. Players must carefully manage their caravan of workers and equipment, while reporting back regularly to journal their findings at the House of Wisdom. Will you succeed in impressing the Caliph, or lose your way and succumb to the wilderness?

The aim of Wayfarers of the South Tigris is to be the player with the most victory points (VP) at the game's end. Points are primarily gained by mapping the land, water, and sky. Players can also gain points from upgrading their caravans, by gaining inspiration from nobles, and by influencing the three guilds of science, trade, and exploration. As they make discoveries, players will want to quickly journal their progress. The game ends once one player's marker has reached the far right column of the journal track.

Lots to keep track of in this race to the end.

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

I enjoyed the game a great deal.I realized there is lots of planning necessary to be able to navigate. The track at the end of the game. The cards you're looking for don't necessarily come up that Often. That would be my only complaint.

A little on the crunchy side with a little fiddliness

Average rating of 3 out of 5 stars

There's a lot of symbols you have to familiarize yourself with and learning the game and how the AI functions at the same time is not easy. Once you've got it, it's actually pretty easy. Setup can take quite a few and the component quality and thickness of the cards is actually not great. Cards do not fit standard sleeves.

My favorite combination of Tableau and Engine Building

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I'm a big fan of Engine building games, but I have to admit I'm a bit meh on Tableau-builders. To that end, when my wife suggested we pick this game up, I wasn't sure whether or not I'd be a fan. I noticed it had good reviews and seemed well-produced, but I was definitely withholding any judgment until we got a few plays under our belts. I'm happy to say that each of the games (3 at 2 players and 1 at 3 players ) were great fun! It ran a little long at 3, so I can't say I'd recommend it at 4 unless all 4 players were quite well-versed in the game already. I'm not going to run through every aspect of the game in this short review, but what I can say is that the way set-collection and Tableau building meets engine building in this game is very satisfying. There are a ton of different options, so you frequently feel very in control of your own destiny. I will admit it's a little overwhelming at first, so I'd definitely recommend watching a tutorial video (or two) before jumping in, but as long as someone can sort of guide people through a first playthrough, I think it's likely to be well-loved by many gaming groups.
