Horrified: American Monsters is a standalone game that features gameplay similar to 2019's Horrified, which challenges players to overcome the "Universal Monsters" from classic films.

In this cooperative game, you face off against classic American nightmarish beasts: Bigfoot, Mothman, the Jersey Devil, the Chupacabra, the Banshee of the Badlands, and the Ozark Howler. The more creatures in the game, the harder the challenge, with players needing to use their unique powers to figure out how to defeat each monster.

This is a very fun and engaging game, particularly if you are looking for something to play with family members or players looking for a lighter, fun experience. It is similar in feel to the original Horrified, but my kids liked the monsters in this one better and got more excited about it as we played through it. I'm not sure you need to own both, but I do and I like both for different reasons. With the way that the monsters and players interact, I can see this one feeling a little different each time you play and holding its entertainment value over multiple playthroughs.

Just as good as universal monsters a fun game that’s easy to teach and scale for difficult also great for solo play.

Loved the original and loved this version. The only problem with this version, is some of the rules aren't very clear, especially with how big foot moves. Other than that it's great. New monsters and new horrors await!

More Horrified!

I found the monsters to be more complex and intriguing than the first and would recommend starting with this one if you don't have the first already. (Although I highly recommend both.) Very happy with it!

American Horrified, Yeah Cool

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

If you played the original Horrified and liked it then you’ll like this version as well. The monster have fresh new ways of defeating them. The map is bigger and the new locations are fun. Now for the bad news (which isn’t too bad), the reason for the 4 instead of the 5. There were issue with this version of the print. There are few times where they don’t keep the lingo consistent and you aren’t sure if they are referring to something new. Also there is one error with one of the item tiles saying a location that doesn’t exists. Most of the monster it’s clear how to beat them, 2 of them were confusing. I had to look it up on BGG. Overall it’s a great new take on the original.

This game is fun and with different characters (and randomized character selection) combined with the monsters makes this game a new experience every time!

A Decent, set but, I have mixed feelings when comparing it to the original Horrified, on the one hand, the monsters have unique mechanics compared to their predecessors, which is appreciated and the monster figures are much more detailed, on the other hand, the map feels less intuitive, the overlay pieces for certain monsters are simple squares of text. The Heroes are nice, they mostly have the same powers as the previous heroes but, the heroes themselves are distinct from their predecessors.
