Star Wars In Small Box

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

An interesting deck-builder that manages to deliver some neat concepts despite a somewhat limited supply of cards to build with. Comes in a small box you can take pretty much everywhere.

Star Realms fans will be pleased

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great deck builder! Being able to attack opponents cards in the trade row before they can purchase them, the choice of basses to use and defeat, and the use of the force track are all well done and great fun. It adds to the replay ability, and if you like star wars, it is an added bonus. It is a great game regardless of the theme. I hope they come out with an expansion or two.

Pros and Cons

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

I’m torn. The comparison to Star Realms is inevitable, and that game has had three iterations to perfect mechanics, deck balance, and power curve. I really like the additions here - the bases, the split deck and concept of attacking your opponent’s cards out of the market rather than just a big pool of health, etc. They put in a lot of great ideas. But at the same time, the card design is poor (tiny icons, tiny text, hard to read across the table). The market is swingy - I had a lot of money but my opponent did not. So his capital ships, which you can’t easily purge from the market, piled up and I was just discarding money each round. Access to scrapping and cycling is spotty, so (like Shards of Infinity) it’s hard to actually act on a strategy and instead you just play whatever the market gives you. In the end, I still like it. I think a second edition would be a great thing. I don’t want a prequel or sequel trilogy edition, I want these characters just with more readable card design and a refined deck, with more mechanics for cycling a bad market and more consistent access to basic deckbuilding abilities. So it’s good, but a bit bittersweet insofar as it does some things better and some things worse than it’s granddaddy STar Realms.

great game for Star Wars lovers

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This is a fun game for the kids (both old and new) who love Star Wars. Game play is easy with lots of decisions to make and if you lose, you can quickly set it up and play again.

Fun and thematic

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

It’s basically Star Realms but with a solid Star Wars theme.

Almost Perfect Creation

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

If you like deck building and like star wars this is for you. The only thing that would make this better is some expansions.

Fun deck builder

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Have played twice now, once as rebellion and once as empire. Both are really fun to play. Need more plays but game seems to be a bit snowbally, once one player was able to get a lead, game seemed to just be inevitable mid way through. Not a huge deal since it’s quick but it is my biggest complaint thus far. Overall though, as a big star wars fan, I find it very fun and thematic. Looking forward to more plays and I would recommend if this theme / game type appeals to you.

A surprisingly good deckbuilder

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This game took me by surprise! I never think that these big IP games are going to be worth my time but a friend of mine pulled it out and I bought it right after we ran it a few times. It's a great 2 player game and you can see how much expansion potential it has as well. Highly recommend!

Easy have with lots of depth

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Deceptively simple game with lots of strategy, replayability. Plays fairly quickly, and I hope they add more card packs. I’m enjoying it

Decent game that falls short of others in the category

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This game has some interesting mechanics for an asymmetrical deck builder and I think with some expansions for additional mechanics could be really good. I feel in its current state it is a good intro to deck building and good for someone who likes Star Wars and wanted to try out the genre of game. I find Star Realms to play a bit better than this in its current state.
