Hive Carbon

I made one mistake when reading the rules that created quite a bit of confusion on how to interpret the hive. The hive includes both colors, not just one color. I didn't get that until I looked closely at the example images and determined that what I saw couldn't be possible if each color was its own hive. That made the game simpler and faster, but it is still a cute game with some fun movement rules that require some planning to execute properly, just like chess.

I like the style on this one more than the colorful one. Big good quality chunky pieces.

Fun 2 player game without a board. The premise is simple, surround the other player's queen, but each piece is unique in it's movement. The game is definitely portable but if space is a concern you might want to look into the Pocket version.

definitely recommend to have on your shelf or on the go. I love the carbon edition, Hefty pieces that won't break when you throw in your backpack or in the car.

It's the same as regular Hive but uses only black and white tiles for that minimalist look. The addition of the ladybug and skeeter tiles along with the base game are the real appeal of this box set, just pick up the pillbug and you have the complete Hive collection.

Great feel to the pieces and I prefer this color scheme. MM was great in their shipping too, as always.

I own Hive classic, pocket, and carbon editions. I prefer the carbon edition since the tiles are so easy to read. Carbon tiles just have better contrast than the others. Great game.

I actually have both classic and carbon edition, and I like this one much more than motley colored classic. The design are inspired by Yin Yang philosophy i guess and you know what? That game really have some similarities with Japanese "Go". Not such deep may be but has some own charm. Also, if you have both editions you can try to play 3 or 4 players with some Homerules.
