Hive: Pocket Edition

The pocket-sized version of Hive comes with a cloth travel bag and both the ladybug and mosquito expansions (which aren't recommended to be used on the first few playthroughs, but you certainly can). I opted for this smaller version over the regular for the built-in expansions and the more portable size. I'm a taller guy with large hands and the smaller bakelite game pieces than the original game were still fine to use. Not too tiny at all. This game offers a lot in terms of replayability and has a depth of strategy to it that can evolve as two players learn the game together. If you're interested in tactile, abstract style games then this will be a hit! Highly recommended.

Fantastic two player game. Chess in 15 minutes or less. And you can bring it anywhere, because it doesn't need a board and it's waterproof. Highly recommend.

A fun and portable abstract strategy game easily fits in a backpack purse or pocket. Easy to learn the components are excellent quality doesn't require a board so you can play it anywhere.

Perfect 2-player game for those who like thinky, strategic, open information games, such as chess or Onitama. Easy to teach. Plays quickly. Perfect also for taking camping or traveling. Lightweight (but chunky waterproof tiles), in a tiny pouch, with no cards to get wet or blow around. Small enough to play on an airplane’s tray table. Besides having my own copy, I have bought this for friends and family who loved it. Highly recommend this game!

The pocket edition of the game is ideal to bring when traveling. We love packing it in our carry-on luggage so that it's to pull out at the airport!

Good instructions with game play examples. First couple of games were a learning experience. The pocket edition has a couple of expansion insects, which adds good complexity.

I bought this because I like to have small games for happy hour or restaurants. I’ve played maybe 10 times so far. It’s great to have a game with totally new strategies. It’s not like anything else I’ve played. And all you need to play are the tiles. Recommended.

If you are deciding which version to get, this one is the option. It has both expansions already in here included, and the size of the chips is still very good in my opinion. The material seems the same as the original version, so that shouldn't be an issue either.
