The P-40 Warhawk was the USAAF's most modern single-engine fighter when America entered World War Two and along with the P-38 Lightning, it shares the distinction of serving through the entire conflict as a front-line aircraft with more than 13,000 built. Although not as maneuverable as some opponents, the P-40 was known for being robust and heavily armed. Its only real flaw was mediocre high-altitude performance due to its lack of two-stage supercharger. Over 200 Allied aces earned their victories in P-40s and it saw extensive service in seven different Allied air forces.
