These maps have specialized rules that make them more difficult to battle on, which is a lot of fun if you liked advanced rules. The maps are a little larger than regular grasslands or desertland maps, and they do have rules for connecting other maps and counting them as terrain features for the map of the alien world but are better off as just their own map.

I grew up playing Battletech with only two map options. You could do the brown side with hills and trees, or the gray side that was basically blank (we called this the moon battle side). To see something like this allows my kids imaginations to go wild. I look forward to coming up with cool map-specific rules for playing with my boys like giant toxic mushroom spore clouds or whatever. Battletech is so much more amazing now than 30 years ago.

I really enjoy the quality and variety of these maps. They'll be great to use in the game. There is one issue I have with the product. I was expecting the special rules for the maps to be self contained, but some of the rules for these maps can only be found in other reference books. The rule sheet does indicate the book and page numbers for these rules, but this will require another purchase if you want to take full advantage of these. It might be beneficial to add the additional books needed to the description of the product.
