PROGRESS DEVELOP DEFEND

Dark clouds gather over the once peaceful landscape. Wild barbarians, lured by Catan's wealth and power, maneuver to attack. Their massive warships loom against the bright orange horizon. You must be strong! Barbarians attack the weakest targets, and the victim of their onslaught will be the player who contributes least to the defense of Catan. Don't take any chances! Field you knights!

In Catan: Cities and Knights Expansion you engage in the defense of Catan and compete to build the three great metropolises of Catan. Each of these magnificent urban centers is even more valuable than a city. They're also immune to the dangerous barbarians. Invest in city improvements, which you acquire using three commodities of trade: coin, paper, and cloth. If you improve your culture, muster your knights, and enrich your fine cities, you will be the master of the great realm of Catan!

Contents:
36 Commodity Cards (Coin, Paper, Cloth)
54 Progress Cards (Trade, Politics, Science)
6 Victory Point Cards
3 Wooden Metropolis Tokens
1 Wooden Merchant Figure

The expansion that greatly upgrades the difficulty and strategy
If you are a avid Catan fan and wish it had a little more complexity and more strategy then this is the expansion for you. After we purchased this expansion we have not looked back. We do not play the game any other way now. The expansion allows for different ways to get victory points and adds a lot more strategy to the game. Every player has their own city improvements they can spend resources on which give benefits to help achieve victory. They also have to have knights on the board to help protect Catan (or not depending on where you are at in the game) from invaders. It makes the game feel more complete. If I had to own one expansion, it would be this one. It might not be for everyone though. If your game night includes younger people or people who do not like deeper strategy than this game might not be for you. This makes a fairly simple game into a more complex one.

The game is great fun and I highly recommend it.

Good addition
This was a fun game that my brother in law introduced me to on vacation. The game play is good. Strategy is key. Lots of variability.
