In this game, you are the bearded leader of a small dwarf family which lives in a little cave in the mountains. Together, you cultivate the forest in front of your cave and dig deeper into the mountain. You furnish the caves as dwellings for your offspring as well as working spaces for small enterprises.

It's up to you how much ore you want to mine. You will need it to forge weapons , that allow you to go on expeditions to gain bonus items and actions. While digging through the mountain, you may come across water sources and find ore and ruby mines that help you increase your wealth. Right in front of your cave, you can increase your wealth even further with agriculture: you can cut down the forest to sow fields and fence in pastures to hold your animals. In the end, the player with the most efficiently developed home board will win the game.

Great game!
Caverna is a worker placement game with various action options. It is possible to get resources , take care of his farm , expand your home and go on quests to brings rewards.

A great game for 5 players , but a little slow . The only problem is having to arrange different types of resources between turns.

If you like Agricola, you will love this game!

Excellent game. One of the best out there.
There are aspects of this game that are strictly better than Agricola, but then there are aspects of Agricola that I prefer over this game. That said, it plays differently enough from Agricola that I wouldn't say one replaces the other and at this point I still think I prefer Agricola a bit. I will have to play Caverna a good deal more before I make up my mind on which one I feel is better.

Better than Agricola
Although I do love Agricola, I own it too, I like Caverna much better. I think this worker placement game by Uwe Rosenberg has a much more cleaned up and refined taste compared to his earlier games.

I love the tiles in this game compared to the cards in Agricola because it is much more simple and everyone gets to choose from the same ones. This does add up in set up time though which is a bit of a pain.

I think this one plays great with 4 players and all the way down to solo. I like that the number of players diversifies or simplifies the player choices in game play. Wouldn't do this with bigger groups because it would take so long to sit through even though it plays up to 7!

If you like Agricola but feel like the number of choices are too overwhelming you'll love this more balanced structure. Must have.

Caverna is a great alternative
Although not as intense as Agricola, this game succeeds for those who don't like starting from behind. It is much easier to grasp and the options for the players have opened up. Easily a must play for those fans of worker placement and the Rosenberg style of gaming

Easily game of the year 2013!
As a fan of Agricola, my wife and I enjoy the streamlined approach that Caverna gives to the same type of game. After completing a game, you wanna start another game right away!!
