Patchwork

Patchwork

Product Review (submitted on September 3, 2015):
This is a very fun game with a lot of strategy. You have to plan you quilt pattern wisely, not painting yourself into a corner where you run out of room to place swatches too early. Since you can see what swatches are coming up you have to think through how to navigate them with the time you have to insure you get the piece you need. As the neutral marker keeps moving clockwise, if a swatch is skipped you have to wait until the marker comes around again. You also don't want to leave your opponent in a position to claim that piece they need. Lots of offensive and defensive choices here, but not enough for analysis paralysis to creep in. Then you want to manage the special patches because you will need to fill in a 1x1 spot or two to insure you get the 7x7 bonus.

It plays very fast and should appeal to gamers of all ages and skill levels. I don't think a hard core gamer would be averse to this for filler play.

Conclusion

Patchwork is another winner from Uwe Rosenberg and a departure from his familiar farming fare. It cements him as one of the great designers in this hobby of ours. If you can find a copy, pick it up... for either two player or as always better: solitaire.
