Rommel's War is a two-player game about the first year of the war in the desert, from April 1941 to January 1942. One player takes the role of Rommel in command of Axis forces, and the other player takes the role of the British commanders Wavell and Auchinleck.

Game units represent the German, Italian, and British Commonwealth armies that fought in North Africa. The desert campaign was one of maneuver. Unit speed plays a factor in combat. Keeping units in supply is important for success as well as maintaining open supply lines across the desert.

Great Duel, Not What It Seems

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This kind of promises a historical simulation, and there are certainly elements of that, but in truth this is more like deluxe Stratego. Which isn't a bad thing; there's bluffing, stalling, and maneuver, and at least the setting and units are anchored in history. It's a good game, and I recommend it - just don't expect a proper historical wargame.

Another hit from Derek Croxton!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Rommel's War is a great game that you can play two-player or solo as it has instructions for how to play it solo. How many block war games can say that? The components are beautiful with painted blocks and a great mounted board. The game plays in about 45 minutes to an hour so you can play it a couple of times in an evening if you want.
