You are bird enthusiasts - researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors - seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your aviary. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth:
• Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower • Lay eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colors • Draw from hundreds of unique bird cards and play them
The winner is the player with the most points after 4 rounds.
The newest printing of Wingspan (and all future printings) has a new component in the box, a swift-start pack (4 guides and 10 new bird cards) to help guide new players through their first game of Wingspan.
This is a great game that I would recommend to anyone. My GF and I like to play board games together, however she does not get excited about any board game unless it is harry potter themed. There are a couple decent harry potter games but not really anything that will knock your socks off. However my GF gets EXCITED to play wingspan! (and Viticulture). She loves the detailed yet soft, peaceful artwork, the info of all the birds is "hidden away" on the cards but easy to find if you look for it, the high quality and beautiful components, the gameplay itself is simple to understand yet has good depth to it. This is just a great engine builder that keeps a very nice pace throughout the whole game and it seems to appeal to non-board-gamers too. The price may seem high for the un-initiated, however the quality of EVERY single paper, card, and component is through the roof! The extra $10-$15 you spend on wingspan vs that other game goes straight into the component quality, which definitely DOES affect the enjoyment of the game. For some people the enjoyment will be elevated only slightly but for most, like my GF and I, the enjoyment goes up substantially with nice components.
