Excellent and necessary.
I consider this to be 1 of 2 mandatory expansions for Carcassonne as it helps to polish the game play.

Adds just enough - easy changes.
OVERALL: This is a perfect add for Carcassonne. It adds just enough small things that are so similar to the base game - you could do an first teach of this game with this expansion already included. It still lets you play as casually or cut-throat as you like to play. GOOD: * Inns - roads with an Inn score 2/tile on completed roads, 0 for incomplete roads; * Cathedrals - cities with a Cathedral score 3/tile&shield in completed cities, 0 for incomplete cities; * Large meeples assist with the area control mechanism as they function as 2 meeples; MEH: * New player color: pink. I don't mind pink, though it's challenging to tell the pink from the red in low light. Also, I would RARELY play Carcassonne with 6 players. The base game and this expansion take up most of my table, and getting 6 people around it, and waiting for 5 other turns, etc..... Blech.

One of the best expansions
Inns & Cathedrals is the first expansion and it is also one of the best. It keep Carcassonne a simple game, just adding some news tiles with easy rules. It still a gateway game.
